Have graphics comparable to Crysis and still be playable with >16 players on screen?

Revolutionary gameplay... I'm so tired of click -> lock on -> automated attack.

I want some combat more like Blade of Darkness, Soul Reaver, etc etc if anyone of you have played those games. I really suggest anyone who doesn't know what Blade of Darkness is, to go play it. I still think its the best PC-Sword Fighting/Action RPG on the PC to date, for its easy to learn controls that can be learned by noobs and perfected by the hardcore players- the depth to the combat system in that game was amazing for its time.

http://pc.ign.com/objects/003/003870.html <--- Link to Blade of Darkness.

All attacks were based off left clicking of course, but there was no auto-lock on. Hold down arrow and suddenly you're doing a sweeping motion that could take out a player's calves. Up and an overhead vertical attack, left or right for horizontal slashes. Each could be held longer for a more powerful attack. Blocking was with the right click, time a left click just right and you could parry. Special moves were executed in a number of ways kinda like Mortal Kombat, for example down, down, left+click at the same time did a whirlwind attack with one handed swords. Now pair those mechanics with a leveling system in which when you learn new attack skills each is paired with a MK style button pressing execution. On top of that, each weapon in the game had it's own skill tree of abilities to be learned.

The only game that comes close to this as of now is AoC.

What do I think? I think next-gen symbolizes shitty games and a high degree of failure in the gaming industry.

Considering 2007 was one of the best years for gaming ever, I think you are absolutely wrong. The number of stellar titles that came out that year was unparalleled, not to mention the level of diversity among options for gaming.

I think we will see a lot of new concepts that test out what the MMO genre can do and every one will fail because what most people want to 'play' is a fantasy work simulator.

It is possible some developers might actually try to make a game to cater to more specific markets (competitive play, etc) and assuming they don't end up chasing cash (ANet) or not knowing wtf to do (Auran), there could be some interesting stuff.

Nevin, I would like to agree with your opinion more than others in this post, but revolutionary gameplay is not something I see a lot of people trying to develop. The few inde titles that try that route either collapse or sell out.

Darkfall was the last game which tried to be revolutionary. It'll most likely end up being scrapped.

One of the biggest draws of the next generation of MMOs is going to be player driven content - that players can change the world by their actions. You'd need to go beyond the concept of servers and instances to achieve this.

Next gen games are too much for most people.

Take Crysis/Assassins Creed - The average computer would have a break down if asked to play those.

AoC is technically a next gen MMO, and all people do is bitch about the high(ish) system req.

Combat sucked in the Soul Reaver games. It did in all of the Legacy of Kain games until Defiance.
